Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Jumper by Debbie Johnson

You might think you don’t have time to fit in another book before Christmas but you might just manage to squeeze in this one, as it’s just under 200 pages. And even better, it’s at the bargain price of only 99p for Kindle just now! You can order a copy here: Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Jumper. I have to thank Laura at Blabbering About Books and publishers Harper Impulse as I won my copy of this book in a competition on her blog.

Of course whenever I think about a man in a Christmas jumper I immediately think of Colin Firth as Mark Darcy at his parents’ Boxing Day turkey curry buffet in the film of Bridget Jones’ Diary. I have to say, I’d be very tempted to kiss that particular man in a Christmas jumper! The man in the jumper in this story is the tall, dark and rather handsome Marco Cavelli. Single mum Maggie literally bumps into him on a snowy street, in an accident which results in a broken leg for him. Maggie was a teenage mum having her now 18 year old daughter Ellen when only 16 and her love life has become a distant memory. Although a strong woman she really lacks confidence in herself as when it comes to romantic situations, does not see herself as attractive and is all the more lovable for that. She is talked into having Marco as her house-guest while he recovers. There is, of course, a huge attraction between them though neither thinks the other is interested. Well I think as readers we all know how that’s going to end up but the fun is in getting there!

And there is a lot of fun in this book with lots of laughs and humorous, awkward situations as Maggie and Marco get to know each other better. But it’s not all light-hearted, there are some genuinely moving moments too. I really enjoyed hearing about Maggie’s brides and their weddings – she is a wedding dress designer. I really liked the characters of Ellen and Maggie’s dad Paddy too. Marco’s brother Rob and sister-in-law Leah feature in Cold Feet at Christmas which I haven’t read but now want to! If you are looking for a romantic, entertaining read with great characters, some snowy weather and a heart-warming ending to get you in the Christmas spirit, why not give this one a try?

Book Summary

You’ve seen Mark Darcy in his reindeer jumper, now meet Marco Cavelli in this season’s hottest Christmas knit! For single mum Maggie, Christmas has always been a family occasion – her daughter Ellen filling the house with her bubbly warmth and mistletoe, her dad Paddy having one too many festive tipples, and the traditional family Christmas tree looking like a drunken elf vomited a rainbow all over it. But this year, with both Ellen and Paddy away for the holidays, Maggie’s facing a truly blue Christmas – alone with nothing but a bottle of Baileys and an M&S turkey dinner.

Until walking the snowy streets of Oxford, Marco Cavelli quite literally crashes into her life – and, complete with broken leg, becomes her unexpected houseguest. All dreamy brown eyes and 6’5” of gorgeousness, the man is hotter and more delicious than a freshly baked mince pie. Though Maggie always thought it’s a truth universally acknowledged that you never kiss a man in a Christmas jumper?
