The Little Book Of Lost Hearts by [Baglietto, Valerie-Anne]

I read and thoroughly enjoyed Four Sides to Every Story earlier this year (review here). In fact, I enjoyed it so much it made my list of top reads for 2016! So I was delighted to have the chance to go back in time, as it were, to meet some of the characters before the events of that story. This short novella focuses on Antoinette, living in Blackthorne Cottage with her orphaned niece Tabitha. She has loved and lost in the past and now lives to make life as good as it can be for Tabitha. When a mysterious stranger rents one of the other cottages, some strange things start happening. Just who is Rufus, how does he seem to just know things about people and who are his famous family who he is reluctant to talk about? Can he help Antoinette to start living for herself and love again?

This was a lovely warm story which despite its short length, gives the reader plenty of insight into the characters of Antoinette and her brother Sawyer though Rufus remains a bit more enigmatic until the end. I thought I had him all worked out but I was wrong!

The author has plans for a sequel to Four Sides to Every Story (one day, she says!) so I’m really looking forward to meeting some of the inhabitants of Fools Castle again.

The Little Book of Lost Hearts is perfect festive reading and will definitely leave you with a smile on your face and a warm glow inside!

My thanks to the author who surprised me with a copy of this book as a little Christmas gift! It is available as an e-book and is currently a snip at only £1.55. You can order a copy online here.

From the back of the book

Introducing Fools Castle, a forgotten village about to be remembered.

Nothing much happens around here, but that suits Antoinette Ellis perfectly. She wants the cocoon the small Cheshire village provides. Fate has taken too many of her loved ones, and all she has left is her brother Sawyer, and their late sister’s daughter Tabitha. Antoinette gave up her future to look after her young niece, but her sacrifice hasn’t gone unnoticed.

When a stranger called Rufus moves into the grim, grey house opposite her cottage, odd things start to happen in Fools Castle. He admits he’s not the person he appears to be, but he won’t reveal who he really is. And what secrets lie within that little old book of his, which no one is allowed to look inside?

A miracle is long overdue, but the season for miracles is just around the corner…

THE LITTLE BOOK OF LOST HEARTS is a festive, contemporary love story, the standalone prequel to FOUR SIDES TO EVERY STORY.
