We’re getting nearer to the end of my Top Reads list for 2018 and my next two choices are both books where loss was significant in different ways for the main characters.
The Wisdom of Sally Red Shoes is full of memorable characters, many of whom have endured great loss and sadness in their lives. Despite this, it was a completely uplifting book. It really focussed on trying to live your life to the full, even if life has thrown some awful things at you. It was a compelling and heart-warming read and I am so looking forward to reading the author’s next book. You can read my review of this one here: Sally Red Shoes
Sophie Duffy’s Betsy and Lilibet followed the lives of two women born on the same day but who had very different lives. Betsy Sunshine is a brilliant character. She works in the family funeral director business and the dignity and respect she learns colours her whole life. Lilibet is Queen Elizabeth and we hear from her through extracts from her speeches which often have relevance to Betsy’s life too. You can read my review here: Betsy and Lilibet
