I’m away for a few days in Dumfries and Galloway and could not pass up the opportunity to visit Wigtown, Scotland’s Book Town. There are loads of book shops in the small town and one, simply called The Book Shop, is the biggest secondhand bookshop in Scotland.
From the outside, it doesn’t look that big but inside it is huge, with rooms going back a long way and book shelves absolutely crammed with treasures. There are books in every nook and cranny and lots of witty bookish comments on posters on the walls. It is an absolute must to visit if you are ever anywhere near Wigtown.
Here are a few photos I took in the shop or from the outside.
I was very restrained and only bought one book – The Diary of a Bookseller by Shaun Bythell. Well, it would have seemed rude not to. The author works in, lives in and owns the shop! And he kindly signed it for me. I’ve read a few chapters already and it’s very funny. (Don’t worry, my daughter bought a few books too!)
You can find out more about the shop on the website: https://www.the-bookshop.com/
I bet you could have spent hours in there!

Looks a fab place – but you’ve got me on tenterhooks – what does the bottom of the poster say …?!
‘Don’t tell us about …..’ ??!! 🙂

Thanks for the bookshop visit Joanne. I loved it. (except for the poor dead Kindle…)
