Come Back For Me by Heidi Perks #review #CenturyBooks @HeidiPerksBooks @arrowpublishing

I had intended to read this on holiday but picked it up a couple of days ago to have a quick look at opening chapter and that was that – I was hooked!

Stella Harvey is our main character and she is shocked when a buried body is discovered more or less in the garden of the house she used to live in as a child. The house is on the island of Evergreen and although Stella remembers her childhood there as idyllic, one stormy night with no explanation, her parents left the island with their children and refused to ever return. Driven by questions of why they had to leave and wondering if she might have known the dead person, Stella makes the decision to return to the island.

I can’t really say much more about the story as I don’t want to spoil the reading experience. There are so many secrets being concealed by so many characters in this book. As it says on the front cover, “We all have something to hide.” Well that certainly seemed to be the case with all the residents of Evergreen so who on earth could be trusted? I really wanted to trust Stella but by her own admission she was hiding things too.

Heidi Perks has done a brilliant job of filling her book with red herrings and misdirection. Just when I thought I had a grasp on what might have happened, she threw in another revelation. This was a really gripping page turner, a book I was reading eagerly as the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle began to fall into place. Come Back For Me is a book full of secrets and surprises and a really engaging thriller.

My thanks to Rachel Kennedy at Century/Arrow Publishing for sending me a copy of the book. The hardback edition of the book will be published on 11th July. However you can get your hands on a ebook copy now and at the time of writing, the Kindle version is only 99p on a monthly deal – so go for it! Order your copy here: Come Back For Me

From the back of the book

A tiny island community is stunned by the discovery of a long-buried body.

For Stella Harvey the news is doubly shocking. The body has been found in the garden of her childhood home – the home her family fled without explanation twenty-five years ago.

Now, questioning her past and desperate to unearth the truth, Stella returns to the isolated island. But she quickly finds that the community she left isn’t as welcoming as she remembers – and that people in it will go to any length to protect their secrets.

One thing rings true…
You can’t bury the truth forever.
