One Day in Summer by Shari Low #bookreview @BoldwoodBooks #BoldwoodBloggers @ShariLow @rararesources

I was very excited to see that Shari Low had a new book coming out and especially that the title was One Day in Summer. What is special about that title I hear you ask? Well, she has previously written a trilogy which I loved with titles which are all variations on ‘One Day in Winter”, so I knew I was likely to enjoy this and I certainly did!

As with the Day in Winter books, the narrative unfolds over the course of a day which makes the story bounce along and it is told in alternating chapters from the points of view of several of the characters. We have Agnetha, known as Aggs, a cafe owner who is celebrating her 45th birthday. Then there’s Mitchell, her ex-husband and father of her twins who just happens to be married to her ex-best friend Celeste. We have the aptly named Hope who has a connection to one of the other characters which of course I’m not going to reveal. And there are also chapters set in 1997 when Agnetha and Celeste are having the time of their lives on holiday in LA and Vegas.

Well, Shari Low has done it again with a absorbing book I found hard to put down. This is strong storytelling with engaging characters who you will feel very involved with. There are plenty of secrets unveiled and both surprises and shocks for many of the characters throughout the course of the day which kept me glued to my Kindle. This is an emotionally engaging read, something I have found with all the Shari Low books I have read before. The events will make you laugh and cry in equal measure. And it’s a love story which is not at all predictable. I am really hoping that this will be the start of another trilogy as I do so enjoy Shari Low’s writing.

My thanks to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me to take part in the blogtour and to the publishers Boldwood Books for my review copy. One Day in Summer is available now in ebook and audiobook formats and you can order your copy online here: One Day in Summer

From the back of the book

One day in summer, three lives are about to change forever.

After two decades of looking after others, this is the day that Agnetha McMaster is reclaiming her life. It’s her turn, her time but will she have the courage to start again?

Ten years ago, Mitchell McMaster divorced Agnetha and married her best friend, Celeste. Now he suspects his second wife is having an affair. This is the day he’ll discover if karma has come back to bite him.

Thanks to a DNA test, this is the day that Hope McTeer will finally meet her biological father. But will the reunion bring Hope the answers that she’s looking for?

Three people. Twenty-four hours. A lifetime of secrets to unravel.
