My Christmas Number One by Leonie Mack #bookreview @leoniemauthor @boldwoodbooks #BoldwoodBloggers

Just time to sneak in one last review of a Christmas book! I have to say that My Christmas Number One is very different from any other festive romance I’ve read and although it took me a while to settle into it, it is indeed as many people are saying a most uplifting read.

As you start to read this book, you quickly realise that it’s not your typical cosy Christmas romance. It may not be cosy but my goodness there is most definitely heat in the book. Whether it’s the heated anger or passion of some of the characters, the heat of a South American Christmas or the heat of the chemistry between the Cara and Javi, it’s most definitely there!

Javi and Cara are two very different kinds of musicians and forced to work on a Christmas single together, those differences are very apparent and sparks soon fly. Cara hates Christmas and you can understand why. A very traumatic event left her with serious injuries to overcome and not just physical ones. The author does an excellent job of showing just how Cara’s anxiety affects every aspect of her life and with what she experienced it’s not surprising. She likes to control everything she can and keep any kind of risk to an absolute minimum. Even just being in a car can provoke a severe physical reaction from her. So travelling to South America for some live performances with Javi is a real challenge for her.

Javi on the other hand is a huge pop star in Latin America with a reputation as someone who doesn’t take life too seriously and is known for sleeping with most of the female singers he collaborates with. He is rather sure of himself and his irresistibility when we first meet him but as the book goes one we start to see a more caring side to him. He’s suffered tragedy in his family which has shaped his character, and family means so much to him.

One of the things I enjoyed most about this book was the opportunity to see what Christmas was like in a very difficult culture. If you want a glimpse of the colourful and exuberant celebrations of Christmas in South America, then this is the book for you. I loved the very different outlooks on life that Javi and Cara had and the fact that despite these differences and living thousands of miles apart, there was still that immense attraction between them. This is a romance that on paper looks impossible but love does often find a way doesn’t it? Will their fusion song ‘Nostalgia’ make Number 1? Well, rather like we’re still waiting to see what this Christmas Number 1 will be this year, only time will tell. Get yourself a copy of this hopeful, uplifting book to find out for yourself just what happens.

My Christmas Number One is published by Boldwood Books and I have reviewed my own purchased copy. I noticed that the Kindle version is a mere 79p just now (check before buying though as prices can change quickly). Why not treat yourself to a last minute Christmas read? From the back of the book

Cara doesn’t do sexy and she only does ‘Happy Christmas’ under duress. She is, after all, a serious musician, and her stubborn streak is born from her struggle to recover from a serious injury.

Javi lives for escapist fun – in his music, and in his life – especially since he’s always failed at life’s more serious challenges, including marriage and fatherhood.

Javi and Cara are forced to record a Christmas single together, but neither of them have plans to spend any more time with each other than they absolutely have to. With Christmas traditions that couldn’t be more different, and outlooks on life that are worlds apart, the chemistry just shouldn’t work. But the magic of Christmas can bring even opposites together…

From the snowy beauty of London at Christmas, to the candle-lit magic of Javi’s traditional family celebrations, let Leonie Mack whisk you away on a memorable festive adventure. Perfect for fans of Trisha Ashley, Mandy Baggot and Holly Martin.
