Sunny Summer Treats is a collection of twenty short stories from ChocLit and Ruby Fiction authors. Some are authors I’ve read quite a lot from before (I’m looking at you Kirsty Ferry and Sue McDonagh!) and some are authors I’m less familiar with. I always think a short story anthology is a great way to find out about new-to-you authors and get to know a writer’s style.
This is a fabulous collection of stories taking you from boat rides to ice rinks, from Honduras to Tennessee and from Paris to Greek islands. It’s as close to going on holiday as you might get this year! You imagine enjoying foodie treats such as ice cream, birthday cake, a very special trifle or even a vegan barbeque. Romance, of course, is firmly at the heart of each story and often love is found in unexpected places. With strong women characters and handsome leading men, you can lose yourself in each story. The stories may be short but they are most definitely sweet and it’s amazing how much the authors have packed into each one.
If I had to choose one of the locations to visit, it would be the mysterious deli in Sue McDonagh’s Little Dream Deli in the Sun. It sounded wonderful. I could almost smell the basil, lemon, garlic and cheeses she described. Just like Alex in the story, it evoked memories of holidays in France and Italy for me and I rather liked the sound of dishy deli owner Luca!
This book is uplifting in many ways. Not only will you finish each story with a smile on your face but you can feel good knowing that by buying the book you are supporting a very worthwhile charity. All proceeds from the sale of this book are being donated to Mind UK.
My thanks to Liz at Choc Lit for sending me a review copy of the book. Sunny Summer Treats will be published as an e-book on Tuesday 13th July. You can order your copy for various ebook platforms on the Choc Lit website here: Sunny Summer Treats
