I’m featuring a new-to-me author in my Festive Spotlight. Jill Piscitello’s latest novel, Tinsel & Teacakes is published today! Welcome Jill and congratulations on the publication of your new book. First of all, would you tell my blog readers a little about yourself?
I’m an author, a teacher, and a fan of multiple literary genres. Both of my children are in college this year, and my house is far too quiet. Fortunately, I have three vocal cats who take great pleasure in amusing me and my husband.
In a nutshell, what is your Christmas book about?
Hair stylist Scarlett Kerrigan lost her job and her apartment. To alleviate a touch of self-pity, she succumbs to her stepmom’s pressure to attend a wedding in the New Hampshire White Mountains. Unfortunately, she runs into the vacation fling who promised the moon but disappeared without an explanation. Months have passed, but she is not ready to forgive and forget.
After a chaotic year, executive Wes Harley settles into his family’s event venue, The Timeless Manor. His carefully structured world is shaken to its core when Scarlett arrives for the Victorian Christmas wedding weekend. The feelings he never quite erased flood to the surface.
When secrets are revealed, will a magical chateau and a sprinkle of tinsel be enough to charm Scarlett?
How did you come up with the title for your book?
My publisher required a cookie to be part of the title for the Christmas Cookies series. For many weeks, I mulled over a slew of ideas and researched countless cookie names on the internet. When I came across tea cake cookies, it just about leapt off the screen. I love few things more than playing with words and phrases. It wasn’t long before the word “tinsel” popped into my head.
Do you still keep any Christmas traditions from your childhood?
Every Christmas Eve, everyone is allowed to open one gift. I have a hunch that’s a fairly common tradition.
How do you plan to celebrate Christmas this year?
I’m hoping to be able to spend the holiday maskless and indoors with family this year.
What’s your favourite Christmas film?
Without question, my favourite Christmas film is “It’s a Wonderful Life”. I’d play this movie as background music every day of the holiday season but would get sucked in every time and accomplish nothing. The cast, the town, and the story are the perfect blend of holiday spirit.
And a favourite Christmas song?
“We Need a Little Christmas” gets me dancing in my seat.
Do you have a favourite Christmas book?
I adore “Little Women”, by Louisa May Alcott. But, full disclosure, I have only read the children’s version with my daughter.
What Christmas book are you looking forward to reading this year?
“The Santa Suit” by Mary Kay Andrews looks like a great book to kick off the holiday season.
How can people follow you or connect with you on social media?
And finally, what’s the best Christmas present you ever received?
My husband gave me a gorgeous, fleece blanket with pictures of my children and cats printed on one entire side. The pictures warm my heart, and the blanket itself is incredibly soft and warm.
Thank you so much for taking part in my Festive Spotlight Jill. I absolutely agree with your
choice for your favourite Christmas film – best film ever in my opinion!
