The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston | #bookreview #romanticfiction #halloweenread | @AshPoston @HQStories

I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book in a giveaway so thanks to the publishers HQ Stories for my copy. With today being Halloween, it seemed a good day to share my review of this ghostly romance.

About the Book

Florence Day is a ghost-writer with one big problem. She’s supposed to be penning swoon-worthy novels for a famous romance author but, after a bad break-up, Florence no longer believes in love. And when her strict (but undeniably hot) new editor, Benji Andor, won’t give her an extension on her book deadline, Florence prepares to kiss her career goodbye.

Although when tragedy strikes and Florence has to head home, the last thing she expects to see is a ghost at her front door. Not just any ghost, however, but the stern form of her still very hot – yet now unquestionably dead – new editor.

As sparks start to fly between them, Florence tells herself she can’t be falling for a ghost – even an infuriatingly sexy one. But can Benji help Florence to realise love isn’t dead, after all?

If you fell in love with Beach ReadThe Love Hypothesis and The Hating Game, this laugh-out-loud romance packed with sizzling chemistry will give you all the feels!

My Thoughts

The Dead Romantics was such fun! I’m not really into spooky or scary stories so for me an other-worldly romance was just perfect to read at this time of year.

I thought it was so clever the way that Ashley Poston brought in all kinds of references to ghosts and the dead. First of all, Florence is a ghost writer for a romantic novelist. She’s obviously a great writer and the books she has ghost-written are best sellers. Only problem is that her break-up has left her unable to write about true love because she no longer believe it exists!

Her family own a undertakers business so she is well used to the facts of death, having grown up in and around the funeral home. She also just happens to see ghosts, something she didn’t think unusual when she was younger. When she has to go back home to help organise a rather unorthodox funeral, she is rather surprised that the ghost of her new (hot) boss also appears to have gone there with her, especially as he had been very much alive when she saw him just the day before!

The book is full of ghostly references and puns from the chapter titles to the banter between characters. It’s never overdone and is sometimes included in a way that’s clearly meant to make you groan like a Christmas cracker joke does.

The Dead Romantics is quirky, funny and romantic. Despite the fact that the love interest is a ghost and so a relationship is clearly impossible, you absolutely believe in the romance and hope it can somehow, however improbable it seems, result in a happy ending. Ashley Poston brings a really fresh approach to the romantic novel and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
