My Brian Bilston poetry book, Days Like These, tells me that today is World Meteorological Day. World Meteorological Day was established in 1951 to commemorate the creation of the World Meteorological Organisation in March 1950. The organisation announces a slogan for World Meteorological Day every year, and the day is celebrated in all member countries. This year’s theme is “the future of weather, climate and water across generations”.
However, according to the WMO website, World Meteorological Day was actually yesterday! I thought it would be fun to have a look at books with weather related titles to mark the occasion. Climate change is of course a very real threat to the future of our planet and future generations and is to be taken seriously. I hope you’ll forgive me this lighter look at weather through books I’ve previously read and reviewed. Clicking the titles will take you to my review.
Sun
Secrets of Sunshine by Phaedra Patrick
Rain
Rainy Day Sisters by Kate Hewitt
Snow
Wind
Windswept and Interesting by Billy Connolly
Rainbow
Secrets and Seashells at Rainbow Bay by Ali McNamara
Have you read any of these books? What other books with weather related titles can
you think of? Do let me know of any recommendations in the comments.
I love this. Although, as you say, we are not short of things to worry about weather wise, it is important to feel allowed to celebrate the weather as well.
